Any healer must be conscious of the needs of themselves, their client and their environment,
before, during and after a healing session.
Ethics demand keeping and working within a place of physical and spiritual safety. We are in
the process of organising one room of our home as a safe space for healing, meditation,
journeying and yoga in bad weather. It should double as a rather special guest room.
A few drops of a favourite essential oil in the palms and brushing down the outside of your
body and up the inside of the legs is very cleansing.
Any crystals are charged before a session, and cleansed afterwards. They, and other objects,
can be cleansed by any of the elements - fire, mater air or earth. Holding them under running
water is easy, taking care that they are not soluble; also easy is sitting them on a bed of
salt. They can be buried for a while, or sat in the sunshine, but these methods need
surveillance from curious creatures. I am also lucky to own a lovely amethyst bed, which
cleanses beautifully, and has a natural seam of citrine running through it, which cleanses
the amethyst.
The physical environment can be cleansed by deep or clear sound vibrations, such as chanting,
singing or use of a singing bowl or chimes. In extremesis, sprinkling salt on the floor and
hoovering it back up will draw the uncomfortable, muggy feelings associated with the echoes
and imprints others leave behind in a space. And a good smudging with heavy incense or a
smudge stick always acts as a good 'spring clean'. Fan the swirls of smoke around the body or
over the object to be cleansed; or fan the smoke throughout the room with your hand or even
a feather.
